Ils se présentent de dos dans un cercle de lumière - figure de l’origine et de la fin. Tout à ce qui motive le déplacement (autant dire les exils, les exodes), James Mweu et Kepha Oiro définissent diverses acceptions de l’urbanité. Construit sur une cohésion relationnelle, leur duo chorégraphie ce qui unit, oppose ou lie les corps à des lignes de force complémentaires. Rivé à un champ ou tendu vers l’horizon (les lumières de la ville), Urbanité est le constat qu’il n’est de danse que dans le rapport, l’écart ou la traction, qui enchaînent ou distendent. Porté par un travail corporel non spectaculaire fondé sur un grand dépouillement, ilsuggère que les données du départ peuvent être inversées si le mouvement donne lui-même naissance à une direction. Si l’on conçoit l’espace à partir du corps, alors les danseurs eux-mêmes créent leurs propres frontières, leur territoire du mouvement.
The dancers start out in a circle of light with their backs to the audience – a representation of the beginning and the end. By working with all the different motives for movement (such as exile or exodus), James Mweu and Kepha Oiro define diverse meanings of urbanity. Built on relational cohesion, their duo choreographs what unites, opposes or links bodies to the corresponding lines of force. Riveted to a field or stretched out towards the horizon (the lights of the city), “Urbanité” is the acknowledgement that dance only exists in relation, distance or traction that binds together or pulls away. Carried by unspectacular movement based on stripping away the unessential, it suggests that initial information can be inverted if the movement itself gives birth to a direction. If we conceive space as starting from the body, then the dancers themselves create their own borders, their territory of movement.
