The competition will take place over three days, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May.

Le théâtre du 4ème art accueille les pièces de groupe pour 2 représentations à 18h et 22h.
There will be two group piece performances at the 4ème Art Theatre, at 6 pm and then at 10 pm.
Un tremplin pour les jeunes chorégraphes
La pierre angulaire de la manifestation reste le concours interafricain, véritable tremplin pour les jeunes chorégraphes.
170 candidatures en provenance de 29 pays pour cette septième édition, qui s’enrichit d’une section solo.
Le concours est ouvert aux compagnies et chorégraphes solistes vivant et travaillant sur le continent africain ou dans l’Océan Indien (hors île de La Réunion). Il concerne des œuvres d’une durée comprise entre 20 et 30 minutes pour les compagnies et ne pouvant réunir plus de 6 interprètes sur le plateau, et d’une durée comprise entre 10 et 15 minutes pour les solos.
Les prix :
Les prix sont un appui à la professionnalisation des compagnies à travers la promotion de la diffusion de leur travail.
Le concours distingue deux compagnies lauréates et un solo, qui bénéficieront d’une tournée internationale de plusieurs semaines à partir de juillet 2008.
Une première étape les mènera au Theater der Welt à Halle le 28 juin, au Festival Montpellier-Danse le 3 juillet, au Parc de la Villette les 8 et 9 juillet et au Festival Julidans d’Amsterdam les 11 et 12 juillet. Une seconde étape à l’automne se poursuivra en France, Allemagne, Belgique, Israël, Liban et Espagne pour une quinzaine de représentations.
RFI, partenaire de la Biennale pour la quatrième édition, attribue pour sa part le Prix RFI Danse à une compagnie francophone qui bénéficiera d’une tournée en Afrique en 2009.

The competition : a springboard for young choreographers
The cornerstone of the event remains the inter-African competition, a real springboard for young choreographers.
170 competitors from 29 countries will take part in the 7th edition, which has also added a solos section.
The competition is open to companies and to choreographer-soloists living and working on the African continent or the islands of the Indian Ocean (except Réunion). For companies, the pieces are 20 to 30 minutes in length and involve no more than 6 dancers; for soloists, the pieces last 10 to 15 minutes.
The awards :
encouraging professionalisation amongst companies by expanding their performance opportunities.
The competition honours two companies and one soloist who will benefit from an international tour starting in July 2008 and lasting several weeks.
The first leg of the tour will take them to Theater der Welt in Halle on 28 June, to the Montpellier Danse festival on 3 July, to Parc de la Villette in Paris on 8 and 9 July, and to Amsterdam's JuliDans festival on 11 and 12 July.
The second leg will take place in the fall in France, Germany, Belgium, Israel, Lebanon and Spain, entailing around 15 performances.
RFI, which is partnering with the Biennial for the fourth time, will award the Prix RFI Danse to a francophone company, who will then have the opportunity to tour Africa in 2009.
